Michael J Pratt BA (Econ) FCA
Michael Pratt qualified in 1980 and became a partner in the firm in 1983 and is the firms Senior Partner. Michael has lived in West Cumbria all of his life and is well known in the local business community. Michael has considerable experience as a general practitioner but has been closely involved in business sales/purchases, business recoveries, raising funding packages and tax investigation work.

Patrick M Sharman FCA
Patrick Sharman qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Gibbons in 1981 having trained initially with a sole practitioner then two years with a national top 10 firm and became a partner in 1985. Being brought up on a farm he naturally has an interest in agricultural finance and acts for a significant portfolio of farming clients. As a partner who has worked in all our offices he has built up a wide diversity of business and personal clients particularly in the tourist, hotel, charity and retail sectors. Since 1992 he has headed the medical finance department working for doctors, locums, consultants, dentists, opticians and related professions. However it is in the area of tax planning where he has an abiding interest so it is in finding solutions to clients problems concerning, for example, IHT and succession planning were he is able to use 30 years experience to best advantage.

Paul F Tew FCA
Paul Tew qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1985, joined Gibbons in 1986 and became a partner in the firm in 1989. Paul trained in general practice in Cheshire, in particular farming, later moving to a large firm environment for three years prior to joining Gibbons. Paul is general practitioner with expertise in business start ups and employment status.

Eric Taylor BSc FCA
Eric joined Gibbons in 1982. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1986 and became a partner in the firm in 1991.
Eric is a Senior Statutory Auditor and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Audit Faculty. In this role he is responsible for a number of large audits covering a wide variety of businesses.
In his role as a general practitioner Eric has a particular interest in investment properties, being either domestic 'buy to let' or commercial property investments. He also has experience in the administration of Estates and Probate matters together with the related Inheritance Tax issues. Eric is also involved in all internal IT matters of the firm and has knowledge of various accounting software packages.

Bryan C Sheard BA FCA
Bryan Sheard joined Gibbons, Maryport office after completing a degree in Accountancy in 1983 and subsequently qualified as a chartered accountant in 1986. After several years working at Maryport office Bryan became a partner in 1992. Bryan is a general practitioner acting for small and medium sized businesses across West Cumbria. Bryan has specialist knowledge acting for: the care sector, clubs and associations, farming and rural community, the construction industry, the retail sector, and personal service companies.

Mark J Stanger FCA
Mark Stanger joined Gibbons as a trainee in 1986 and became a partner in 1995. Mark previously ran our former Keswick office until its merger into the newly built Lakeland office in 2007. During his time with us he has built long term relationships with a wide range of clients and has considerable experience in farming, tourist related businesses and has many clients with property and construction based activities. Mark is also an audit partner.

Russell J Thwaites FCA
Russell Thwaites joined Gibbons as a trainee chartered accountant in 1991, qualified in 1998 and became a partner in the firm in 2002. Based in our Lakeland office, Russell advises a wide range of owner-managed and family run businesses and has considerable experience in acting for farms and the agricultural sector, construction businesses, the retail sector and personal service companies.

Lee Dixon joined Gibbons in 1989 and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1994 and as a Chartered Tax Advisor in 2003. Lee became a partner in the firm in 2003. Lee is general practitioner and can advise on effective tax planning including inheritance tax and estate planning.

Tony Hindmoor FCA
Tony Hindmoor joined Gibbons in 1988 as a trainee chartered accountant and qualified in 1993. After gaining experience in auditing and accountancy Tony became a partner in the firm in 2003. Tony is a general practitioner acting for a wide range of businesses including pharmacies, farming and rural community, construction industry and the leisure sector including caravan sites, hotels and the licensed trade. Tony is also a statutory auditor.

Gary Carty BA FCA
Gary Carty joined Gibbons in 1992 as a trainee chartered accountant and qualified in 1996. After gaining several years experience in audit and accountancy Gary became a partner in the firm in 2003. Gary is a general practitioner, acting for a range of small businesses, and is a statutory auditor. Gary specialises in statutory audits, personal service companies, employment status matters and is our partner in Workington specialising in the charity sector, this work can vary from general assistance and advice to statutory audits.

Phillip J Mackay FCCA CTA
Phillip Mackay joined the practice in 1996 before becoming a partner in April 2008. Phillip qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant in 2003 and is also a Chartered Tax Advisor, looking after many of our personal tax clients in the Lakeland Office. He advises many of our corporate clients acting for a range of businesses, from small owner managed to companies to businesses with a turnover of several million pounds. Phillip also specialises in acting for medical professionals. As well as looking after several Doctor’s own personal affairs Phillip helps advise several GP practises.
